From the Ground Up at Cultivation Works

Groundbreaking New Greenhouse

In late June, ground broke at the site of a new greenhouse at the 13 Lund Rd. facility in Saco. The project is funded by the generous support of the Sewall Foundation’s Healthy People Healthy Places Program and is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.

The new space, complete with radiant heating, will allow Cultivation Works to substantially increase its services and output, offering more participants the opportunity to learn about sustainable farming practices and healthy eating. According to Mary Jo Marquis, Director of Social Enterprise and Community Partnerships, “We’re going to broaden our product line…In addition to wholesale, this will allow us to have a local retail platform for selling Teenie Greenies and cut flowers, microgreens, etc.” A new farm stand will be established at the corner of Lund Rd. and North St., and, with the help of nearby retailer Indoor Marketplace, it will be open full business hours. The opening day is yet to be determined.

Many participants already enjoy the fruits of Cultivation Works through the produce the program provides to CWS residences. Now, more of that bounty will be available for sale to the community, too.

Construction is being completed by LT Properties, the same company that built the CWS residences on Creative Way in Augusta.
